ICHOR Hong Kong Invitational Cricket Festival 2004

Po Kong Village Road Cricket Ground, Hong Kong, 29–31 October 2004

ICHOR Hong Kong Invitational Cricket Festival 2004 — a roaring success!
A new venue, a new timeslot, a new title sponsor and a new format but despite these changes, or more accurately because of them! — this year’s ICHOR Hong Kong Invitational Cricket Festival 2004 was officially a roaring success. With 27 teams entering — including 11 overseas sides — and playing 65 matches over three days on two grounds at Po Kong Village Road the Festival was the biggest club sixes event ever staged in Hong Kong and is now one of the largest in the world.

The aim of the organisers was to broaden the participation in the Festival with the introduction of a Women’s Division and a Spoon Division for social players. Certainly the Women’s Division proved a great addition to the tournament, the first ever cricket sixes event for women held in Asia — with two overseas teams from Chiangmai and Japan competing in a round robin competition with two teams made up of players from the Hong Kong Women’s Cricket League.

The weather, thankfully, was glorious over the weekend of the Festival (29 – 31 October) and good use was made of the marquees and sun umbrellas, not to mention the thirst-quenching Fosters! Two big nights out were had at the Mes Amis bars in TST and Wanchai and the Awards Dinner at the Metropole Hotel on the Sunday night was well-attended, with all teams entering into the spirit of the tournament which is ‘enjoyment on and off the pitch!’

It really was fantastic to see so many cricketers from so many different backgrounds playing cricket and enjoying the cameraderie in Hong Kong. On behalf of Lamma CC I would like to thank Hong Kong Cricket Club, as co-organisers of the Festival, for their excellent support of the event. Although it’s a relief to have the 2004 ICHOR Festival over and done with, we’ve had so much positive feedback from players, teams and sponsors that we can’t wait to get stuck into organising next year’s Festival!

Looking forward to seeing you at the ICHOR Hong Kong Cricket Festival in 2005!
